Founded on December 22, 1995, the Silicon Valley Institute of Art and Technology (ART‑TECH) was created by visionary partners Meryle Karloff Holmes and Roy Bentley Holmes, pioneers who previously helped establish the New York Museum of Holography in Manhattan.
Their early work brought holography into commercial use, including landmark point‑of‑purchase displays featuring Tom Selleck as the Marlboro Man.
ART‑TECH’s original San Jose headquarters showcased the emerging fusion of art and technology, hosting forward‑looking exhibitions and keynote speakers such as Arthur Miller and Inge Morath. The Institute’s founding board included Meryle Karloff Holmes, William H. Spence, Consuelo Santos‑Killins, Michael Malone, and Thomas Hayes.
After a dormant period, ART‑TECH was re‑established in 2022 with Meryle continuing as Executive Director and a renewed board committed to expanding the Institute’s mission. Today, ART‑TECH blends art, technology, sustainable agriculture, healing arts, and innovative infrastructure into a living campus environment designed to inspire, educate, and empower future creators.
